The First Book I Remember Reading

I think my personality growing up exhibited a misguided depth… a little wise a lot of naive. I would literally spend all of my free time reading. I would read into the night, not realizing that it had become too dark to really see the pages (until my mom would flick on my bedroom light). I am sure I read many books before this but the first one I can actually recall is ‘Dante’s Inferno’ by Dante Alighieri. It’s a beautiful allegory about a mans journey through hell (literally). However, figuratively, it speaks to the traumas of the human experience and the beauty of coming out on the other side, stronger and wiser.

I know what you are thinking, “This woman is a little dark and she’s writing CHILDREN’S BOOKS”. I like to think that everything in life has something important to teach us and sometimes we can find the most profound lessons in the most unexpected places. Sometimes my readings were fun and fictional, sometimes they were dark and moody. A well-rounded writer knows a little something about everything. My book series explores the mental, emotional and physical experiences of children in an evolving world in a way that’s fun and lite but meaningful. Dante’s Inferno helped me to understand the art of telling the story of the human experience in an unforgettable way.
