Sankofa- go back and get it!
It took me a while to finish this novel because it was heavy. It stirred all of the emotions that we bury deep down in the Earth of our consciousness. We plant our feelings beneath that Earth, cover it with the dirt of moving on with life and we forget to revisit it (to see what it has created). This novel takes us there, took…me there; back… back to what we try to forget or have forgotten by no fault of our own.
Do you ever find yourself performing acts, speaking words and you can say with assurance” I sound like my mother”, “ that’s something my grandmother would say”, “ my father…”. Do you ever wonder why you feel the way you feel about relationships, friendships, the people around you or the world? We never really stop to think about the “trama-bonds” (from our childhood, our relationships as we move through the world) that are planted in our Earth and covered with our dirt.
What I have learned, and what I hope my children’s books convey, is that we are all in a constant state of learning. However, to uncover who we are, we must first go back to understand the root of why we think, feel and move the way we do. Do the real shadow work, and in that work we begin to realize how we present ourselves to others and why… how we judge others and why.
Sankofa… go back and get what you buried in your Earth.
